Mecca Fire Evening Update July 3, 2018

The Mecca Fire, that started yesterday (7/2/18) around 3pm, has been mapped at 737 acres and is at 90% containment thanks to initial attack teams and overnight crews. A Central Oregon Type 3 incident Management Team shared objectives for tonight at this evening’s 6pm briefing.

Fire fighters will be focused on keeping fire out of the Greeley Heights Subdivision and keeping fire activity west of the Deschutes River.

206 personnel are assigned to the fire. Management of the fire will return to Warm Springs at tomorrow mornings (7/4/18) 6am briefing.

Because of Red Flag Warnings through tomorrow, and the 4th of July holiday, 10 engines, 2 crews and 3 water tenders will remain in place to mop up the Mecca Fire and to assist local fire fighters with any incidents that may occur from new fire starts.

Everyone is reminded that conditions are dry and wildfire can easily spread. Please make safety your top priority as you celebrate tomorrow’s holiday and stay fire safe.
