The 509J Summer Food Service Meal Program is available today in Warm Springs at the Youth Center with breakfast at 8:45 and lunch at noon.  In Madras meals are being served at the Westside School at 7:45 and noon and at Buff Elementary at 8 and 11:30. Nutritious meals are free to kids 18 and under.

Tribal Council is in session today. On the morning agenda are enrollments, the tribal water project, August agenda, Travel Delegations and a review of Minutes. This afternoon will be updates from the Secretary Treasurer and Chief Operations Officer, a Ventures Update, Board Appointments and Draft Resolutions.

There is Senior Fitness Class is today at 10:45am at the Senior Center. Participants are invited to eat a meal after – today they are having: black bean spinach casserole, mixed salad and fresh fruit.

Functional Fitness Class is today at 12:10 in the Community Center aerobics room and Pi-Yo class at 12:10 in the clinic atrium.  There is also a new early morning Fusion Fitness class every Tuesday & Thursday at 6am in the Community Center aerobics room.

There is Women’s Prayer Group at the Presbyterian Church from 12:15-12:45 today. All women are welcome.

Warm Springs Community Health at the Health & Wellness Center has a Behavior Health Clinic every Monday and Friday, walk-in appointments are available between 1 and 5pm.  This is open to Children, adolescents and adults.  Services available include screenings, assessments, crisis intervention, and referrals to seek mental health and medical care, substance abuse treatment or other community resources.

The Vocational Rehabilitation Program has an orientation session today at 3:00 in the Culture & Heritage Building conference room, 2nd floor.

 

Tuesday 7/23

Financial Skills for Families class series starts tomorrow at the Community Action Team office on campus. It’s Tuesday evenings and dinner will be provided. This is a requirement for Oregon Individual Development Program participants.

There is a Victim Impact Panel tomorrow from 6-7:30pm at the Warm Springs Baptist Church. Community members are welcome to attend and listen.

Warriors for Wellbriety are meeting tomorrow evening at High Lookee Lodge. They have drum practice at 6:30 and the meeting is at 7:30.

 

Wednesday 7/24

There is a food handler’s class this Wednesday from 2-4pm in the Health and Wellness Center atrium.

The Jefferson County Fair and Rodeo is this week starting Wednesday with Honoring Veteran’s Day. Thursday is Kid’s Day. Friday is Senior Citizen’s Day. And, Saturday will be Can Cancer Day – everyone wear purple. Entry into the fair is free. Presale carnival ride passes are on sale now at the Grocery Outlet in Madras thru tomorrow. There will be night entertainment and the rodeo starts at 7pm on Friday and Saturday.

Warm Springs Sanitation reminds residents to bring your garbage totes to the road on your scheduled pick up days. And, remember that totes are for garbage only – no yard debris or grass clippings.

Tribal youth, ages 14-18, are encouraged to apply to participate in two outdoor experiences in August – a backpacking course August 26-28 on the Warm Springs Reservation or a Deschutes Rafting Course August 26-30.  There is a community gathering planned for all participants on August 25th. The Heart Healthy Heroes Club – a series of classes to help you improve your heart health while saving money through prevention – will be held in Warm Springs on August 13, 20 & 27 from 11am to noon at the clinic. It is free to anyone with heart disease or other chronic heart conditions and family members who would like to learn more. The month of August at Art Adventure Gallery will feature artists who live in and around Jefferson County. Artists may submit up to 4 pieces in any medium. Application forms are available at the gallery or online (www.artadventuregallery.com) Work can be dropped off any time during business hours next week. The opening reception for the All Jefferson County Exhibit will be Thursday August 1st from 5:30-7PM.

The Warm Springs Library is having a summer reading program for youth 18 and younger. For every book you read, fill out a book slip from the library and put it in the drop box there for a chance to win prizes. The more book slips you turn in the better chance of winning. There will also be prizes for kids who turn in the most book slips. So, get in as many as you can by Friday, August 30th.

Indianpreneurship classes are coming up August 17 & 24 at the Community Action Team office. This program teaches the basics you need to know to start your own business. They will cover all 12 lessons over the two Saturdays from 9am to 4:30pm. Call 541-553-3148 to sign up.
