Community Calendar for Friday July 19, 2019

The boil water order continues for the Warm Springs Agency Water System.  Drinking water distribution is today 7:30am – 6pm at the old Elementary School Library.  They also have ice available there.  Showers are open 6am – 9pm.  This situation is expected to continue for the foreseeable future.

Water outages are occurring – and everyone is asked to conserve water by: checking to make sure your outside faucets are turned off.  No lawn watering.   Water reservoir levels are low and so reducing your water use will help

  • The 509J Summer Food Service Meal Program is available today in Madras at Bridges in the Westside School at 7:45 for breakfast and noon for lunch; at Buff Elementary – with breakfast at 8am and lunch at 11:30; and in Warm Springs at the Youth Center at 8:45 and noon. Nutritious meals are free to kids 18 and under.
  • The Warm Springs Outdoor Market is today from 10am to 3pm on campus in front of the Community Action Team office. New vendors and anyone fundraising are invited to set up.  KWSO will be there with merchandise for sale and we will also be selling food.  There will be a walk around campus too – starting at 12:15.  Participants will get a raffle ticket with a chance to win prizes.  Check in at the KWSO booth.  Looking forward to seeing you at the outdoor market today 10am until 3pm!
  • The Native American Program Legal Aid Services of Oregon is offering free civil legal services in specialized areas to eligible tribal members. There is a walk-in intake clinic today from 10am to noon at the Community Action Team office.
  • At 10:45 this morning, there is Senior Fitness Class at the Senior Center. After class a meal will be provided to participants. Today’s menu is: barbecue pork sandwiches, cole slaw, eggplant fries and fruit.
  • Friday Fitness options today include Functional Fitness class at 12:10 in the Community Center aerobics room and Pi-Yo class at 12:10 in the atrium at the clinic. Personal training is now available – Call Community Wellness at 541-553-3589 or Joe Arthur 553-3243 for details.

  • There is a Behavior Health Walk-In Clinic today – appointments are available between 1 and 5pm. The Medical Social Workers at the clinic can help with screenings, assessments, crisis intervention and many other things for children, adolescents and adults.

Saturday 7/20

  • The Madras Farmers and Artisans Market is Saturday from 9am to 2pm at Sahalee Park.
  • The Summer Jam Film Fest is happening tomorrow at the Warm Springs Community Center Social Hall. Doors will open at 6pm.  This year’s video theme is Language is Power.  There will be door prizes, youth t-shirts, and local videos.  Everyone is welcome.  Admission is free!  Contact Bigg B if you have any questions.

Sunday 7/21

  • The Warm Springs Food Bank is located at the Presbyterian Church. It is open Sundays from 11:30-1:30. This Sunday, they will also have opportunities for folks to get medical welfare checks and mental health counseling.

Boarding School Applications for the coming school are available at the Higher Education office on the top floor of the old boys’ dorm. They are due by July 31st.

The Jefferson County Fair and Rodeo is next week – Wednesday thru Saturday. Wednesday will be Honoring Veteran’s Day. Thursday is Kid’s Day. Friday is Senior Citizen’s Day. And, Saturday will be Can Cancer Day – everyone wear purple. Entry into the fair is free. Presale carnival ride passes are on sale now at the Grocery Outlet in Madras until July 23. There will be night entertainment and the rodeo starts at 7pm on Friday and Saturday.

The Warm Springs Library is having a summer reading program for youth 18 and younger. For every book you read, fill out a book slip from the library and put it in the drop box there for a chance to win prizes. The more book slips you turn in the better chance of winning. There will also be prizes for kids who turn in the most book slips. So, get in as many as you can by Friday, August 30th.

The Warm Springs Back to School Barbecue is coming up on Thursday, August 29th from 4-6pm at the K-8 Academy.
